On Thursday, May 3 at 11 o’clock in Skopje, USAID launched Project for Adaptation to Climate Change in Agriculture, which will promote adaptive agricultural practices and raise awareness of the forthcoming challenges of climate change and the need for joint, community level responses. The event took place at the “Kontinental” Hotel in Skopje. Adaptation to Climate Change in Agriculture is a three-year project implemented by the Rural Development Network of the Republic of Macedonia (RDN of RM).

The event gathered representatives from the Government of Macedonia, relevant national and local agriculture institutions, members of the Rural Development Network, owners of agribusinesses, and donor organizations, together with experts in the field of adaptive climate change technology in agriculture. The Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Economy, Mr. Ljupco Dimovski, and the USAID Economic Growth Office Director in Macedonia, Mr. Joseph Lessard, and Mr. Dragi Dimitrievski, Dean of Faculty of Agriculture Sciences and Food from Skopje, gave their speeches

“Real progress to safeguard our natural resources for future generations will ultimately depend upon positive action at the community level by farmers, rural dwellers, and other local groups that have a stake in preserving their source of livelihood,” said Joseph Lessard, USAID Macedonia Economic Growth Office Director. “I commend RDN’s grassroots development approach that takes into account the needs and priorities of people at the local level.”
