Buffer Zones as a Measure for Soil Loss Reduction

On December 15th, near Tikvesh Lake, the USAID Adaptation to Climate Change in Agriculture project set up buffer zone of trees to reduce soil erosion. Around 30 students from the agricultural high school “Gjorce Petrov” in Kavadarci, participated in planting fifty cypresses which will be a buffer zone between a vineyard and the lake. Through this field activity the USAID project strives to raise the awareness of young stakeholders in the agricultural sector about climate change negative influence to field erosion and teach them how to reduce soil loss in vineyards established at downslope terrain by setting up vegetation.

How to Mitigate Climate Change Negative Influence in Agriculture

On September 17th, at the Institute of Agriculture, in Municipality of Butel, USAID Adaptation to Climate Change in Agriculture Project gathered around 40 farmers and NEA (National Extension Agency) advisors to present the results obtained at the demonstration plot, settled in autumn, 2012.
