Today, 09.11.2012, beginning at 11 o’clock, within the International Trade Fair “Agrofood”, Rural Development Network of the Republic of Macedonia and Foundation of Education and Development-Humanopolis (member of ERA Skopje Fair group) organized a conference on effects of climate change in agriculture. The aim of the event was to share experiences from USAID Adaptation to Climate Change in Agriculture Project current activities and initially gained results. The event gathered representatives from many national (National Extension Agency) and local agriculture institutions, agriculture organizations from Strumica, Kumanovo, Negotino and Gevgelija and members of Rural Development Network. Professors from the Faculty of Agriculture Sciences and Food presented the initial project results and achievements, adaptive techniques in orchards and measures for water conservation and improvement of agricultural crops’ yield.
“Current and future project activities are pioneer steps in the area of adaptive climate change measures in agriculture which will significantly contribute to improving sustainable practices within farming systems in the Republic of Macedonia.” said Petar Gjorgievski, President of Rural Development Network and Project Chief of Party.
USAID Adaptation to Climate Change in Agriculture Project, implemented by the Rural Development Network (RDN), is a three years project, launched in April this year. Lessons learned from the applied adaptive agriculture techniques within the first project component, can be used by the agricultural producers.
